Legislature Continues Work on Budget
House and Senate members continued to work on legislation this week with floor action on many bills and resolutions. The deadline for third reading of bills on the floor of each house is Thursday, April 22. After that both houses will only consider bills that come from joint conference committees. Both houses also passed a number of agency budget bills. Those bills will now go to the General Conference Committee on Appropriations. The GCCA will write the final budget and return it to both houses for final consideration sometime before the last Friday in May.

Legislative Committees Continue Work
House and Senate committees continued work this week on measures from the opposite house. The Senate has one more week of committee work before turning its attention to bills and resolutions on the Senate floor. The House has two more weeks of committee work before dealing with measures as a full body for the remainder of the year. After the next deadlines, the only committee work remaining will come in joint House-Senate committee meetings and in deliberations of the General Conference Committee on Appropriations. The GCCA will be responsible for writing the FY-2011 budget. As part of the budget-writing process, the House and Senate passed a number of appropriation bills. The bills will go to GCCA and will eventually be used to appropriate funds to state agencies for the next fiscal year.
